It didn't take long for me to realize that the mount I was walking around was not only a volcano, but an active one... Down in the valley, the red flowing rivers, contrasting with the black hollow boulders wich I could imagine blowing up in the air, before hitting the ground with an incredible violence. After climbing that hill, so steep, as rough as wilderness, I was crossing the flat and snowy south crater giving to the landscape a pinch of softness. From there, mount Ngauruhoe has a perfect cone shape. Then still a bit more up, was the deep red crater, and on the other side, two frozen emerald lakes. Going down to the hut, I could see right beside the smoky fumeroles, and walk along the petrified lava flows wich, not long ago, were flowing down the slope.
If the landscape becomes a black sandy desert, still some vegetation lighten up with colours. Very low but still orange or red leaves, cotton looking flowers mixed together has so much more brigthness to offer than we could imagine.
I hiked during three days, trying to get as much as I could remember, eyes and ears wide open, breathing deeply, enjoying the feeling of perfect happiness...
